As I am working on a book about the Congo, I thought I would take advantage of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s extensive collection of African statues, masks and totems and sketch some reference. A few of my quick drawings are posted above and below.
After studying the African section for a time, I moved over to the Roman section and looked to sketch a few Emperors or gods but found that I was not inspired in the least. The Roman stuff is a bit overly perfect. So moved to the Greek section and found some female figures that I never really noticed before. The two below are my new favorite Greek figurines.
