I Finally Get Some Credit(s)

Last week a movie opened called , The Last Living Boy in New York. I can’t lie about the less than positive reviews it is getting, but I had a very small (very very VERY small) hand it it’s production. I illustrated the cartoon images you see in the opening credits (They were animated by a special effects house). I’m unclear how much I can show of my art, I can’t post the entire animated credits for example, but let’s assume I can post a few little snippets. The credits as originally envisioned showed scenes of “old” New York compared to present day New York. Thus, the modern Times Square below. Below that are images (both roughs and finals) of Warhol, Lou Reed and a certain female singer that was not used in the final cut. If you can’t recognize her, then I didn’t do a very good job!

Friday in Brooklyn

I hate ice coffee. I love coffee, but ice coffee is just a chore. Kind of like medication that you need to take. Yesterday it reached 90 degrees in Brooklyn so…it’s ice coffee season. It also means that soon people will be outside enjoying summer. As they should. So I’ll squeeze in one more promo concerning my self publishing empire! If you haven’t yet signed up to get the first issue of Rabbit Who Fights, you can do so HERE.  See a sample page below:

Is it political? Is it a super hero type book? I’ll be honest, it’s evolving as I work on it. Issue two has a completely different type of story related to the above characters.

The first week in June will also see part three of Red Ryder and the Big Bad Woods. A bit of which you can see below!

Is that not the most EXCITING dialogue you have ever heard?

In conclusion, ice coffee bad, check out my Patreon- comic publishing empire if you get a moment.

Thanks!

Tim

Press Release Friday (from my press secretary )

“FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE”
April 21, 2017

Humor, Horror and Age Drive Tim Hamilton to Self-Publish Comics.

Children’s book author, New Yorker cartoonist and artist behind the Eisner nominated adaptation of Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 is adding self-publishing to his busy schedule.

Tim Hamilton announces he will write and illustrate his own twenty four-page anthology comic titled, Rabbit Who Fights which will come out three times a year. The anthology will contain sci-fi horror inspired and informed by the current state of the world, along with humor in the form of Hamilton’s comic, Brother Sasquatch. Previously available only on-line, Brother Sasquatch’s, humor is also informed by the darker side of human nature. The book will also contain rejected New Yorker cartoons and a story called, Hospital Comics.

He will also digitally publish a monthly humorous adventure called, Red Ryder and the Big Bad Woods which will involve talking animals and the existential threat of senility and old age.

Hamilton is publishing this all through Patreon with the intent of getting his own creations into public view on his own terms. Most of these comics don’t fit easily into a marketable niche and Hamilton wanted them in print before he gets any older as self-publishing is a game for the young.

You can see previews and find out more about, Rabbit Who Fights and Red Ryder and the Big Bad Woods on Hamilton’s Patreon page at:  https://www.patreon.com/TimHamiltoncomics

Frog Friday

Early in the morning, before I started working on the daily grind of a project I’ll talk about later, I warmed up my fingers drawing some frogs. This character is featured in my on going story Red Ryder And The Big Bad Woods on my Patreon page. Although I’m on Patreon and those who subscribe get to see all sorts of behind the scenes sausage making, I of course will still post fun stuff here for all to see!
(If you want to see more talking animals…head over to my Patreon)

Friday Finishing

The penultimate chapter of Brooklyn Blood, By Paul Levitz and myself appears in this month’s issue of Dark Horse Presents (issue 32).  I finished it long ago of course and now I look at it and say to myself, “I should have colored that a bit differently.” If you can put your work aside for at least a couple of days and then take a second look at it, you will usually see all the little fixes that need to be made. If you forgot to do that, never admit it and just tell everyone the work is just as you planned it! Here is the splash page of Brooklyn Blood Chapter fifteen just as I planned it!

Flash Back Friday: Miami Book Fair 2009

I have been in the ongoing disorganization of organizing my studio. Realtors took over the building where I, and many others, used to work and forced us out (because every inch of real estate in Brooklyn is made of silver and gold these days). Thus, a small part of our apt had to be adapted to hide my mess (my work space). We built a floor to ceiling see though bookshelf, and I now work behind a semi see through wall of books. We have a LOT of books.

In going through the books and note pads that need to be kept or tossed in the garbage, I found a note pad recounting the Miami Book Fair of 2009. The Fahrenheit 451 adaption had just come out and I was sent to the show to do talks and mingle. In fact, on the shuttle bus from the hotel to the event I shared a ride with Laurie Sandell, Sid Jacobson and the outrageous Carol Tyler. As you can imagine, it was a  shuttle bus ride I will never forget.

Further reading of my notebook reminded me of something I totally forgot. A passage about encountering a large group of well dressed (way over dressed) event goers in the Hyatt Lobby. Looking beyond them, I spotted the sign for the event they were crowding into; “Money Making Opportunities by Donald Trump.” That’s what I wrote down in my note pad at least. A quick google search about who was at the 2009 Miami Book Fair seems to confirm my memory.

The Fahrenheit Adaption came out some eight years ago, warning people about obsessing over reality shows projected onto wall sized televisions, among other things. Yet here I am still struggling away as an artist who has yet to strike gold. I should have paid for the “Money Making Opportunities” seminar!
